About us and Our vision

About humanitarian manufacturing volunteering

Humanitarian Manufacturing Volunteers is an international organisation that was created to respond to the lack of opportunities for technical and non-technical manufacturing sector professionals to use their skills to aid world development, increase equality and reduce poverty. We connect locally-owned enterprises in developing countries to manufacturing specialists and facilitate vital voluntary overseas humanitarian manufacturing improvement projects.

In the world's developing countries, many NGO's are having success in aiding infrastructure, education and health development. However, long term reduction in poverty and suffering will only be achieved when developing countries build on these gains and attain the capability to independently produce their own manufactured goods. This will create equality and prosperity for the local region and people through skill development, revenue growth and job creation. To achieve The Millennium Goals, this must be done in an efficient and environmentally sound manner and be self-developed without reliance on western companies. Read on to see how you could help us!

How do we help? ...

Our purpose is to aid the development of independent and sustainable, efficient and environmentally aware local manufacturing economies by supporting locally owned and managed manufacturing enterprises on all developing continents. Not only is there a huge shortage of manufacturing sector expertise in these economies but there are also no other effective and specialised mechanisms for those in developed countries with manufacturing skills to be able to easily access worthwhile and safe overseas humanitarian manufacturing development projects.

Humanitarian Manufacturing Volunteers achieve this by attracting both technical and support function manufacturing specialists from all ages, sectors and functions such as Engineering, Quality, Lean, Manufacturing Management, HR, Logistics, Purchasing, Sales, Consulting, Production Engineering, Marketing, Repair/Service, IT and Finance. We then facilitate short and long term self-driven improvement project volunteering at carefully selected locally owned manufacturers to ensure that the improvement task is highly beneficial for the host company, the volunteer and the region.
